What will the role involve?
As a class C+E Tanker Driver, you will be responsible for the transportation of sewage sludge from production export sites to treatment import sites around Yorkshire. You will be required to carry out these tanker movements safely and in accordance with all operational training given. You will also ensure that you operate your vehicle safely on the highway, complying with all road transport legislation and you do so with respect to members of the public and as efficiently as possible.
You will be part of a tanker driver team where you will in the most part be required to self-manage your work. This will be issued via a tough book- mobile computer and you will be required to feedback on your duties in real time to ensure that we can track all sludge movements within Yorkshire.
You will be required to ensure that your vehicle is kept clean and tidy and that it is fit for purpose at all times, you will be sharing your vehicle with a night driver, therefore it is essential that you can work effectively within a team. All vehicle defects must be reported through the appropriate authority and repaired as soon as is practical. There will be a requirement for you to operate tankers with both automatic and manual gearboxes.
You will adhere to Yorkshire Water's Health and Safety policy & procedures and ensure you wear appropriate PPE at all times. As part of the role you will be conducting manual duties which include carrying tanker hoses and opening valves and you will be working on operational sites in all weathers. You will need to react quickly to any operational issues and report these incidents to the control room, or other authority as required.
What skills are we looking for?
The vehicles you will operate can range in size, though the majority of your work will be carried out on an ridged unit with a vacuum tanker, therefore experience of driving vehicles with a liquid load is desirable and a class C+E licence is essential. Preferably, you will have knowledge of the waste water industry, although full training will be given to the successful candidate.
You will have the ability to work well in a team and also work well on your own, you must be able to effectively manage your time within your working day to ensure that your load targets and business needs are met. You will need to remain vigilant and report any site/vehicle issues or concerns in a timely manner.
The ability to communicate well with others is a key part of this role as you will be interacting with your tanker driver colleagues, operational colleagues and members of the public. In order to reduce the amount of disruption to our customers you will be required to work flexibly to provide holiday/absence cover and training courses from time to time. Prior notification of these events will be given by your line manager. Whenever possible and practical all training will be carried out whilst you are on duty or scheduled to work.
A full valid EU Driving licence with class C+E is required and having your own transport will be desirable, to allow you to travel to and from different operational sites, for this you will be required to have business appropriate car insurance.
