What will the role involve?
Your role will be Senior Software Developer within the Software Development team with a focus on designing and developing solutions across the various websites and mobile applications in use within Yorkshire Water and the wider Kelda Group companies.
Our current estate consists of a range of both bespoke and off the shelf CMS packages that you will be expected to work on as required. Going forward, there are various ongoing projects to replace a number of these systems and you will have the opportunity to help set the direction for these new technologies.
The Senior Software Developer will be accountable for designing, developing, testing and supporting (3rd Line) websites and mobile applications, and associated integrations with other internal systems, in line with our IT Programme of work.
As Senior Developer, you will be accountable for identifying technical tasks and providing realistic estimates on various projects, ensuring adherence to our IT process throughout the project delivery lifecycle. You will be accountable for adhering to all approved technical standards and for creating high quality detailed technical specifications to support the overall technical solution, ensuring non-functional requirements are catered for.
You will be accountable for ensuring all solutions are robust, reliable, fit for purpose and meet the specified Service Level Agreements. You will ensure these solutions are secure in nature from a confidentiality, integrity and availability perspective and be compliant with legal requirements of licensing.
You will also be required to undertake the role of Project Technical Lead on various customer focused projects, being accountable for the overall technical solution for the defined business requirements.
As Project Technical Lead, you will be accountable for the sign-off of the final solution. You will be responsible for ensuring the right people are identified for all required technical roles and all appropriate technical tasks and quality assurance measures are in the project plan; you will ensure technical audits at key points in the project; technical quality of all deliverables; and that all non-functional requirements are clearly accounted for in the technical solution. You will be accountable for any technical change to an agreed solution, ensuring appropriate sign-off; and for identifying all technical risks and issues.
You will also be accountable for the provision of documented and, where possible, automated operational procedures and for the technical implementation of the solution and handover to operations.
Additionally, you will contribute to Contingency and Security planning aligned with the Business continuity plans; influence and adhere to the quality management and change control procedures within the team. You will provide guidance, coaching and support to other members of the Software Development team and work with Technology Framework Partners to enhance the services provided by the technology, promote innovation, reduce costs, manage risk and build resilience.
You will also undertake specialist detailed and complex troubleshooting activities within your technical discipline and have the ability to carry out complex systems and technical analysis with supporting documentation.
What skills are we looking for?
- Strong HTML, CSS and good basic design skills
- Good knowledge of securing public web applications and public APIs
- Microsoft stack - C# / Entity Framework / ASP.NET (MVC, Web API and Web Forms) / SQL Server / IIS
Nice to have
- Azure cloud experience
- Drupal knowledge
- SiteCore or equivalent .NET CMS experience
- Mobile App Development (react-native / cordova)
Experience of leading the configuration and delivery of robust and reliable web sites and mobile applications, with a proven track record of delivering fit for purpose solutions, sometimes working alongside third party suppliers.
Excellent experience of documentation, testing and release management principles.
Experience of developing and maintaining effective internal and external relationships within one or more technology disciplines.
Knowledge and understanding of IT security within the cloud landscape.
Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a dynamic, changing environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to absorb complex technical information and communicate effectively to all levels, both technical and non-technical audiences.
Highly motivated and self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development and demonstrates a strong customer service ethos.
