The salary will be around £42,000 + 25 days' holiday, pension and quarterly bonus. The role will be based at our Head Office in Buttershaw, Bradford.
What will the role involve?
The role of Innovation Technical Specialist has four main functions: to seek out new and emerging technologies; remain at the forefront of drivers for change; provide technical guidance and challenge to raising and inflight R&D Innovation Projects in support of the Project Manager; technical knowledge transfer into the business from an extensive personal network. This will require great engagement skills, strong technical capabilities and a level of commercial acumen that can evaluate the risks and opportunities associated with an ambitious business vision.
You will have an extensive external network to remain at the forefront of emerging academic progress, technologies or services. You will contribute to building R&D Business Plan programmes and appropriate prioritisation, challenging projects from idea generation through research and development, generating knowledge and options for the business to implement.
You will join an agile team working in conjunction with Project Managers, Innovation Programme Managers and the Manager of Innovation to ensure delivery of Business Plan objectives, a robust supply chain of R&D Innovation Projects to meet, and inform, short and long term business need.
Driving excellent standards and performance in project specific health, safety, wellbeing, process safety, risk management and control of work, contributing to compliance with the YW Safety Policy is a key part of the role. This will require significant engagement with, and focussed support from, appropriate colleagues.
Working with all colleagues you will establish and inform the technical drivers for Innovation investment. You will feed back into relevant YW departments technical updates from your maintained network that could inform business progress.
What skills are we looking for?
Significant role appropriate technical experience in operational and strategic elements of water treatment and quality; or, waste water treatment including sludge; or, infrastructure / underground assets (it is recognised that water distribution and sewerage have some different skill requirements) for at least 3 years. Relevant academic/professional qualifications with appropriate education to Degree level is required.
Whilst technical knowledge is a key attribute it is equally important to have the ability to communicate and engage at all levels. This is important inside and outside the business, demonstrated by developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Experience of working within a team to deliver significant projects in a Research and Development environment and of supporting and embedding change would be beneficial by demonstrating the right culture and behaviours.
A full valid EU driving licence is required.
