Strategic Asset Manager (Clean Water Networks)
Up to £58,000 dependant on experience + annual bonus + attractive pension + 28 days annual leave + car / car allowance + private healthcare
What will the role involve?
The role of Strategic Asset Manager (CW Networks) is part of the Business Risk & Investment Team within Asset Management, and you will be one of the company experts in the areas of distribution mains, service reservoirs, water pumping stations etc.
You will liaise with other experts in the business to create strategic business plan submissions, through understanding the risk your asset area poses to loss of service, and the implications for expenditure decision making and achieving Performance Commitments.
Ensure our processes, modelling techniques, systems, data and business cases are fit for purpose and meet all internal and regulatory requirements. Development of the next regulatory submission to our economic regulator, aligned to our customer defined Outcomes, Performance Commitments and company Strategic Business Objectives.
Assisting in the transition of the strategic business plan submission in to a deliverable programme, and continued alignment to the strategic plan, will also form a key part of the role, working with assurance groups as required.
The role will be responsible for:
Developing next generation world class strategic asset management processes, asset deterioration modelling capability, robust and auditable strategic business cases for water network assets.
Responsible for developing the intellectual and technical arguments which will ultimately form the basis of our case for investment in future Periodic Reviews. Ensuring any future investment proposals meet appropriate internal assurance, regulatory guidelines and achieve the company’s Performance Commitments.
Playing a key role in the development and articulation of alternate future strategic scenarios for the business to consider in delivery of efficient and effective service to customers
Influencing both internally and externally in your area of responsibility to ensure YWs best interest is well articulated and represented
Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.
Lead studies and analysis in to asset life and asset deterioration in support of robust long term asset planning for specific asset groups.
Provide detailed understanding and interpretation of regulatory requirements in respect of service, compliance and performance risk.
Work with Finance & Regulation to understand and develop regulatory opportunities within existing and future legislation.
Developing economically viable long term asset investment plans to meet business aspirations for step change improvement in service in line with our Customer supported Outcomes, Performance Commitments and Strategic Business Objectives
Maintain long term asset management plans for specific asset groups, deriving costs, benefits, risks and opportunities.
Work with other members of the Business Risk and Investment Team and the wider Asset Strategy Team to develop, promote and project manage the production of medium (5+) to 25 year asset management strategies that align with the company’s Strategic Business Objectives.
Developing and constructing both verbal and written rationale and technical business cases for asset investment and service improvement for AMP7 and beyond, take the lead in representing the Company strategic business cases in audit and to regulators.
Work closely with Teams within Asset Management to ensure that asset strategies, policies and future environmental obligations are adequately and appropriately represented in the creation of strategic business cases.
Provide strategic support and challenge to Asset Management and Service Delivery in delivering Performance Commitments.
Ensure capital maintenance planning tools are embedded in business as usual processes.
Working with the Business Support Group to produce specifications, business cases and user requirements for the development of world class asset management systems.
Work closely within the Asset Management Directorate to ensure consistency of planning, and to share best practice and thinking, to ensure the data and business processes are of high quality and fit for purpose to deliver future asset management plans.
Build external networks; develop collaborative working with like-minded businesses to ensure YW remains at the forefront of strategic planning in the water industry.
Represent the Company on external groups such as those coordinated by UKWIR or Water UK.
Demonstrate relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver sustainable outperformance for YW that rigorously achieves our vision of ‘Taking responsibility for the water environment for good’ against demanding competitive industry benchmarks.
Ensure that robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions, aligning local activities with unit and company plans.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
Degree level qualifications
Experience of Strategic Business Planning
Experience of business risk planning / asset management prioritisation
Experience of Risk Management
Experience of Financial Management
Experience of Project Management
Experience of managing direct reports preferred
Experience of coaching and influencing others
Experience of compiling, assessment, interpretation and communication of data
Experience of Managing conflicting priorities and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
Capable of strategic thinking and problem solving
Technically capable & able to critique complex, technical, economic data & arguments
Able to compile, analyse, interpret and summarise complex data
Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
