What the role involves?
Joining the Asset Integrity Team within Asset Management, you will take on an essential role in enabling Yorkshire Water to achieve our vision of Operational Excellence and World Class Asset Management. The role of the Solutions Engineer is to develop, deliver, and implement operational and capital solutions.
As a Solutions Engineer involved with the promotion and delivery of capex solutions, you will be the key representative of the End User groups, working in the commercially and technically challenging environment of the Collaborative Service teams involved in the investigation, design, construction, commissioning and completion of projects. You will be required to work closely with Asset Planning and Asset Solutions Delivery teams and framework contract partners. You will establish and maintain an effective liaison throughout the life cycle of a project with the end user groups that you represent.
The role is based in Leeds with travel required to all areas of the region therefore a current valid driving licence is essential.
The key purpose of the role is to develop, deliver and implement Capital and Operational Solutions in response to investigation outputs.
What will the role involve?
You will work with Service Delivery and Asset Planning teams to ensure the optimum prioritisation of Business Risk, providing regular updates and feedback on solution progression using established communication routes. You will be working as the technical expert as part of a Core Team within Asset Solutions Delivery to deliver the right assets for the business – providing support and challenges to the contract partners during the investigation, design, delivery and hand back process. Ensuring that the risks are fully understood, Asset Standards and Engineering Specifications are followed and that the Whole Life Costs are accurate and reflect the drive for world class asset investment.
You will ensure that asset solutions are developed, delivered and implemented in line with Health and Safety policies and procedures, in compliance with YW policies and standards, and to time and cost.
You will build BRM+ Failure Scenario entries as required, which accurately represent Business Risk and BRM+ Solution entries as required, with associated costing which represent an obvious solution to address the risk and allow the accurate calculation of net benefit.
You will establish and maintain effective communication with the Service Delivery Team throughout the life cycle of the project, Liaise with Service Delivery and Asset Planning teams to ensure an effective commissioning and hand-back process is achieved once a solution is implemented, and updating Asset Management systems to reflect changes to Assets and movement of Risk.
You will work as part of a team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how your individual performance links into achieving the team’s wider objectives. You will ensure that robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions.
You will work with colleagues in the business resolving complex operational problems and work with operational teams to ensure full implementation.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:-
You will have experience and or a technical background in water treatment. Qualified to a minimum of HNC or equivalent in a science or engineering related discipline.
You will have previous experience of understanding where your role fits within a business plan and then developing ways to deliver the outputs. You will develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships and have previous experience of supporting and embedding change. You will be a confident influencer and be able to drive the right culture and behaviours and demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving.
You will have a proven track record in putting together and promoting convincing business cases and be skilled and experienced in negotiating and influencing to achieve results.
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a team and under your own initiative.
You will have strong communication skills as your role will involve day to day liaison with a wide range of internal teams and external contractors.
A current valid driving EU driving licence is essential.
Experience of using IT systems would be beneficial, although full training will be given.
